Development of drugs to extend life- an healthspan and prevent metabolic disorders

Project acronym: Development of drugs to extend life- an healthspan and prevent metabolic disorders

Project duration: 1 October 2017 – 30 September 2020

Grant holder: Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Grant of the President of Ukraine)

Project goals: Determine the molecular mechanisms of interaction between lifespan and metabolism, as well as to identify new factors (chemicals, diets) that increase in life expectancy by effecting metabolism

Specific project objectives are:

  1. Determine the activity of signaling pathways, which are currently considered to be involved in the regulation of life in flies fed by diets with different protein-to-carbohydrate ratio; supplemented with geroprotectors or genetically determined increased lifespan.
  2. Determine the activity of antioxidant enzymes regulated by Nrf2 protein in young and old individuals of Drosophila melanogaster.
  3. Determine expression of genes controlled by signaling pathways, which are currently considered to be involved in the regulation of life expectancy of Drosophila melanogaster fed diets with different protein-to-carbohydrate ratio; supplemented with geroprotectors or genetically determined increased lifespan.
  4. Check new factors, with adaptogenic and geroprotective properties for the ability to activate the expression of genes involved in regulation of life expectancy and stress resistance of an organism, as well as their influence on a number of physical parameters – rate of development, mobility, fertility, accumulation of stored metabolites.

Expected result: Define the molecular mechanisms of interaction between the lifespan, metabolism and stress resistance
