The Department of Labour, Environmental and Agricultural Law is the executor of the project “European system for the protection of the right to a safe environment: experience for Ukraine” 101127083 — ES PRSE EU — ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH (Grant Agreement № – 101127083 — ES PRSE EU).

Project implementation period: October 1, 2023 – September 30, 2026.
Project aims and specific objectives
The project aims are to prove the importance of environmental rights in the system of human rights, to attract more attention to the value of the protection of the right to a safe environment, to demonstrate the role of the realization of environmental rights in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, to define ways of the implementation of the European system of protection of the right to a safe environment in Ukraine, to promote the improvement of Ukrainian environmental legislation in the context of European integration and its approximation to EU standards.
The specific objectives of the project are:
– to extend the knowledge of Master’s students of the Educational and Scientific Law Institute of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University about the nature and features of EU Environmental Law;
– to form Master’s students’ understanding of EU legal mechanisms for environmental right protection;
– to share, between target groups, knowledge about the importance of environmental rights in the system of human rights;
– to form and consolidate the target audience’s system of knowledge about the place of environmental issues in the priority spheres of EU activities and its role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals;
– gradual and sustainable implementation in Ukraine of EU approaches to protecting the right to a safe environment after the project completion.
The project includes:
– educational elements (development and teaching of courses, development and publication of the educational manual);
– scientific elements (conducting of the research and publishing of scientific articles, organization of the scientific and practical webinar);
– practical elements (organization of the workshop, organization of practical meetings).
Project Results
Implementation of the project provides: development complexes of methodological materials; conducting research and publishing scientific articles; organization of the scientific and practical webinar with further publication of event materials; development and publication of the educational manual.
Project Summary
The improvement of Ukrainian environmental legislation in the context of European integration and its approximation to EU standards present a serious challenge for Ukraine and Ukrainian society. The question of environmental protection is an important part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Moreover, environmental quality is the key element for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The concept of the project aims to explore the legal provision of a rational use of nature, problems of the guarantee and realization of environmental rights, legal aspects of environmental restoration in the context of European integration of Ukraine in light of the protection of the right to a safe environment in European and Ukrainian legislation.
The target audience benefiting of the project will be: Master’s and PhD’s students, lecturers, scientists, practitioners (lawyers, ecologists, advocates, representatives of local, regional and state authorities) in the field of Environmental Law, interested public.
It is expected that the realization of the project will have the following results: increase the quality of knowledge in the field of EU and Ukrainian Environmental Law; improve students’ competitiveness in the labour market; serve as the basis for future research activities; stimulate the establishment of new research directions; enhance professional development and contribute to the internationalization of the target audience; stimulate the process of developing new and improving the existing Ukrainian environmental legislation according to EU standards; improve the level of the protection of environmental rights.
